Volume 4 Fall '06

Quiet summer afternoon, winding country road,
Lawrence Livermore Lab:
Lasting impression.

PIT 6 SITE

What happened to 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5?

Passing barren, bleak explosive
testing grounds on my right, lifeless
territory marked by austere chain-link fence
entry gate bracketed by twin guard houses

I turn to landscape on my left
serene rolling hills, pastoral fields
cottonwood trees flourishing
life-supported by a year-round stream

I believe this road is a fine line between war and peace
