Pestilence
Megan Morwen Johnstone

The Center for Disease Control
has not yet declared Rust
an epidemic, but it is spreading
beyong Pittsburgh and Detroit
into the cornfields.
Corroded windmills from the last
generation stands mute testimony
to the small farms of the past -
driving through America by plant
gates rusted shut, from steel
into the heartland of the grain,
you can see the fungus etching
twisted limbs of farm machinery
into giant scarecrows
causing silent plagues upon
the land.
