Crash Course
Nantambu Abdul-Ahota

every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
Jews still fighting the Palestinians
bombs blasting between Catholics and Protestants
every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
space station under construction
caves of Kandahar under destruction
fake stock options being sold for greed
bony, pot bellied, popeyed children starving overseas
commercials dish out sixty second doses
of stuff that we don’t need
every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
young thug just mugged an old lady
distressed mother just murdered her newborn baby
new condos on the ocean being built up to the sky
corner store prices in the ghetto always sky-high
every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
plans on the drawing board to produce human clones
debates on Capitol Hill about whether it’s right or wrong
ball player just signed a million-dollar deal
crack head just busted because the cops saw him steal
every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
workers being laid off all over town
cost of living continues to go up
but never seems to come down
homeless sleeping in the park without a place to stay
the silent majority still don’t have a damn thing to say
every time I turn on the television
I see the world on a course of collision
but in spite of that we must make a conscious decision
and not let the boob tube warp our vision
