Great tears are made from tiny rips

Mountains from mole hills, wars from riffs

Big things come by littles



Inch by inch the worm ascends

Step by step the journey ends

Snowflakes on branches force them to bend

Big things come by littles.



Choose wisely the mode, the clarion way

For you are spending numbered days

All slipping by in numbing haze

Imperceptibly by littles



Good or bad, you daily choose

Right or wrong, win or lose

Heaven or hell begins with you

Destiny comes by littles.

C.S. Cooley was awarded the 2007 Burning Bush Poetry Prize
for "By Littles."


C.S. Cooley is an English/literature major at the University of South Florida and a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her poetry has been featured in Victory Magazine, and she is the author of Where does the Love Go?, a journal of comfort for grieving children. In addition to writing poetry, Cooley is currently working on several children's books and a self-help book exploring the philosophy of "being" vs "doing."
