Sacrifice
Jessica Saltzer

Who are these coming to the sacrifice?

Gawkers
Ooers and awers,

Drivers and passer byers
Watch the scene as it unfolds

Like an ancient knit

woven spread,

Two left dead

cracked ribs and head

Jabbed with tin and lead

Millions unfed

Do nothing to see

The sights are free

Families

Left empty by help on TV

The women with their couches

And million dollar pouches

Seek your answers through these

They are doctors who can't help

Undo your deeds

Or cure your sneeeze

In the streets reports sleaze

See the price on their knees

And live with the disease

From those all too willing to please

Who are these?

Come to the sacrifice

Your car won't be towed unless you've owed

Or just never showed

I promise I'll be brief

If you turn your cash in

And be unto men what you're willing to spend

The scene of your crime

Costs you no more than your dime

Surely, you won't have the time

While the streets remain an array

Of the casted away

Stolen away

Robbed of today

By the ring of your phone

The lock of your broken home

The heart of yours like stone

You are these, COME!

And make your sacrifice
